What does a copy editor or proofreader do, anyway?

We ensure your work is clean, concise, and error-free. We catch mistakes and inconsistencies you might have missed, refine your voice, and help you present your ideas in a precise manner. Investing in a copy editor or proofreader demonstrates commitment to the quality of your own work and helps protect your credibility.

What's your rate?

My rate is project-specific, depending on the scope and scale of the work. In most cases, I charge an hourly rate. When appropriate, I charge a project rate or by the word. If you would like a quote, send me an email: emma@wordstothewise.co.

What's your turnaround time?

Turnaround times depend on the project. The longer the lead time you can give me, the better. I typically cannot guarantee a turnaround under 72 hours.

What if I need something edited right away?

Without prior agreement to accommodate shorter turnaround times, rush jobs will be subject to an additional fee. I may not be able to accommodate a rush job without advance notice.

Which style guides do you follow?

I frequently work with The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), 17th Ed.; The Associated Press Stylebook (AP), 56th Ed.; and the American Medical Association Manual of Style (AMA), 10th Ed.
